CATCHING UP WITH LIFE FEAT. MISIBIS BAY, CAGRARAY ISLAND

Every working millennial would understand that “tired” is always a part of our existence. Behind our care-free life that we project is an ambition and willpower that burns inside of us. These usually fuel us to exert that extra effort in performing well in our jobs. However, our passionate minds and hearts may also lead us to be deprived of our personal time. It’s very inevitable especially when our capabilities are milked out like crazy to meet an urgent deadline.

When “beaching” is the perfect remedy.

My bff Joana (https://happyrabbittravels.com/) posted a write up regarding the same musings, and we usually talk about how we maintain the harmony of our personal lives. From the looks of it, she already found the right formula to balance her social and corporate life. In my case, no matter how hard I try, it seems that finding the equilibrium for these two is a huge challenge for me. There are just weeks where I would go without rest day to finish urgent matters in the office. Yes, my desk is clear but my head is cluttered. I missed my friends; lazy afternoon naps; and doing absolutely nothing. Just when you are on the verge of overheating comes my much anticipated 8 working day mandatory leave. The much needed hibernation took me to one of the most beautiful places in my hometown in Albay. I must admit that I am guilty on exploring only a few parts of the province despite jet setting to a number of places.

Sunny afternoon in Misibis Bay.

White sand at its finest.

My friend and I found ourselves in Misibay Bay Luxury Resort in Cagraray Island, Albay. After we arrange our stuff in our designated room, we immediately swapped our clothes to our swimwear and head to its famous white sand beach. The sun, the waves and the wind in our faces are the true therapy to combat the overflowing stress.

The feeling of lying down, facing the sun with the sand on your back stops the time like no other. A quick escape from the busy streets and skyscrapers brings an inner peace that melts all the restless feeling that has been accumulated all together. We never mind the burning sensation in our feet. All we care about is how we can make the most out of our time away from harsh reality.

After this short-lived vacay, it made me understood that there is nothing wrong if you allocate a spare time for yourself.  I still have this vacay-aftermath syndrome where I would crave for that pampered feeling, but I know it would be much impossible to have a weekly dose for such due to budget and scheduling concerns. Then again, weekends are there for a reason, and I just realized that I have to maximize this free time to be in the best shape the next working day. I will still render overtime in the future if its necessary, but I’ll make it a point to squeeze in some “me” time even if it is in a form of a long sleep, or a short adventure if possible. Being dedicated (or workaholic in some sense) to your profession is a thumbs up, for as long as we can draw a clear line from our lives within and outside our office.

THE SINGLE STRUGGLE

Waking up alone – This is not new for those who have been single since birth, and to those who have been for so long. You always wonder if someone will also reciprocate or even surpass that feeling that you’ve shown for others. For most of your “all by yourself” moments, you’ll eventually get used to being alone and dating yourself all the time. Yes we have friends who tirelessly paint smiles to our faces and keep things in good vibes. Once the euphoria starts fading, you still look for that special person who will touch you from the inside. Someone who will make you realize that you are also special in his/her eyes no matter what happened.

Reality is, the sad part does not necessarily come from those silent realizations, but to those people around you. It’s hard when they label you as an overreacting person when you only hope for the best for your love life. You only operate the way you wanted to be treated by your would be partner. In their eyes, you are just a lost individual who is wasting his time being the right person. As I try to open myself to others, they told me that they’ve been there. With the hurt that they’ve experienced, they tried to take me on-board to the “misery loves company” bandwagon. For them, attention and love from others is to be purchased – literally. They tend to call themselves mature for outgrowing any of the real emotions associated in truly loving someone, and accepting that all of us are meant to be treated like crap. In short, having someone love you for who you are is a hoax for them.

I honestly felt sorry for how they feel. When you are just crossing your fingers to find the right one, it is inevitable to stumble upon them who aim to bring people to a state of melancholy. As they tried to educate me for their so-called “standard of living”, it slowly made me question my significance as a human being. Should I just be like them? Enjoy sleeping around and define love as collective one-night stand experiences from strangers? Am I really made to be taken for granted?

With all these negative feedback, I decided to finally shut my ears to them and start to surround myself with positive people who can lift my spirits. Their toxic advices are just too much for me to handle. While drafting this post, I wrote down my thoughts to their words, and to help others who have encountered this type of people.

“Maturity is not about tolerating the wrong things that others are doing to you. It’s about knowing how you should be treated and forgiving yourself for allowing  someone to take advantage of you.”

“We all deserve all the respect and love in the world. We are all worth it.”

“Learn whom you should lend your ears. Always stick to people who know how to empathize and can give you a nice tap on your shoulder.”

The right person will freely and willingly reciprocate the love that you are ready to give.”

They have their life experiences. We draw our own path and our lives should not depend on what they have encountered.”

“Single” can indeed be a powerful word. Its definition can expand from the pain to something that is full of promise. Surviving the single life might be tough. Remember, behind all the bitterness is an independent you whose shine should never be dulled. You don’t need to prove them anything. Just continue being you who has a positive outlook in your single status. When we find true love someday, it will definitely create and counteract echoes to what they have expected us to be.

365 DAYS OF SUMMER FEAT. THE GREENERY, BULACAN

Being born and raised in a tropical country, having a winter wonderland is a common fantasy of someone who is used to a sunny and rainy disposition. The geographical location of the Philippines – situated in the middle of the equator would make you realize that you have to kiss your frozen dreams goodbye in your homeland.

Despite of this, the confirmation of the sun’s presence even on the seasons where other countries are freezing cold has been welcomed with open arms with our swimwear on. You can get a tan anytime of the year and counteract the heat wave with a splash.

As a sun worshiper, we always make it a point to drive to the nearest resort and take a dip on the pool under a sunny afternoon. We found ourselves in The Greenery, Bulacan on a hot weekend. It was a total detox having the sun glare on their crystal blue infinity pool, facing a wide lake. While some of my friends are covering up with layers of clothing for that extra warmth, the palm trees and the white cottages in The Greenery gave us the perfect opportunity to strip down and show the goods that we have been working for over a year.

A major relief from being constantly covered by corporate clothes on the majority of my existence. Sunburns over frostbite? I’m willing to give the latter a try maybe in the future. But the former can provide an equal enjoyment, a sort of starting the year with kisses from the sunlight.

THE GOOD SIDE OF BEING A TOURIST

After earning my college degree, travelling has become one of my top priorities in my checklist. Just the thought of seeing the world outside my hometown, and gazing through the clouds from the plane window would blaze adrenaline to me and my peers. As we discover places, we were introduced to the “traveler” and the “tourist”. The former pertains to exploring the world with very little to no preparedness at all. They are the backpackers admirable for their brave heart and enthusiasm. On the other hand, the “tourist” is the one who has the list of everything-on-hand, from destinations, essentials, clothing and the like. In short, this is the total opposite of being a traveler. But on the contrary of this being frowned upon by some, being a tourist has a perks of its own.

WORRY AND STRESS-FREE VACATION

If you’re the type that you want to rest your brain from the act of sudden hassle or the mere fact of minimizing physical exhaustion, a well-planned vacation with pure relaxation is for you. You just have to sit back and let your allocated money and itinerary do their job. No need to be anxious on how to go from point A and B, cause everything from the time you set foot out of the plane ‘till you go home is already taken care of.

ORGANIZED JOURNEY

Getting lost is okay sometimes. But it also entails you to lose time to see a lot of important spots because of being lost. Most of your precious time will then be allotted to wandering around and asking locals for direction. As much as possible, we want to maximize our holidays with meaningful events, not with those stories of scratching our heads and asking where to go. For us young professionals, our time for leisure is at the mercy of our approved vacation leave(s) in the midst of our busy schedules. That is why every tick of the clock is considered a luxury, not unless if you have all the time and money in the world.

OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE GOOD FEEDS

You don’t always have to trust luck when it comes to taking OOTD photos for your Instagram. Being ready can yield you the same results similar to those boasted to the unplanned ones. Why expect and wait for that photo-worthy location if you can actually identify some before your vacation? Doing your homework on the best spots and its complementing outfit can bring you home a memory card full of snap options – Talk about food for your feeds!. After all, it is our happiness to add a “portfolio” to our memories and experiences.

RELIEF AFTER A LONG DAY

Who says you can’t have comfort while you make memories? Reality is, you don’t have to sacrifice comfort for the sake of your trip. A voyage will not be tarnished if you would trade a tent or hammock to a nice bed. You can still enjoy some of the things that a traveler would do, just with the added perks of recharging your mind and body for the next day’s activity.

PLEASURE AND RELAXATION

Travelers are always ready to take the plunge. They are delighted by climbing mountains and continuously crave for adventures that require a lot of physical activities. However, there are others who would want to escape reality and look for a moment to unwind and lighten up. These usually involve a trip to museums; visiting renowned spots and restaurants; or simply getting a tan in the beach.

BUDGET FRIENDLY

You might be in question when you see this. In your mind, you are thinking that a traveler is synonymous to expanding the potential of a small amount of money into something meaningful. The few penny and planning method has been tried and tested, but expect to shed some cash in some instances that you are unable to find a vehicle to hitchhike, or a cheap motel to spend the night, especially if you are really craving for that rest after a day full of activities. Mind you, last minute or on-the-spot booking may come with a golden price tag.

I’m not saying that you won’t be immune to a sudden break-a-bank moment. Chances are slim if you have everything settled and prepared beforehand. There are hotels/inns offering a discounted rate when you book ahead of time. Travel agencies also offer a nice transportation service that can take you around places or even transfer you from one island into another.
