Asia New Star Model Contest – the competition that shows the diverse Asian beauty scouted representatives from the corners of the biggest continent through their respective networks per participating Asian countries. Last October 2016, the winners from the Face of Philippines S2 were selected from hopefuls. Along with the handpicked candidate, they were flown to South Korea this May 2016 to compete to the said contest.

As a clear stand out though her obvious sky scrapper height, Kathlyn Asuncion has been an early favorite even in the rounds of local fashion shows. The girl doesn’t have to try hard as she is born with feline-like gaze straight from the 50s era. Continuously booking jobs for two seasons on Manila Fashion Festival became her training ground to build her confidence more and live in accordance to demand of her high heels. Aside from her hard work, her ever-supporting family are always there to witness her glide with the pros and give life to the theatrics of the shows. Fast forward to May 2016, she and other delegates from the Philippines jet set to South Korea to battle it out step-by-step with the delegates from other Asian country.

Walking with all her collected gears through months of experience, Ms. Kathlyn impressed the crowd and finished at top 10. It’s just months since she started submerging herself to the actual fashion scene, but we are puzzled if it is still appropriate for her to be called as newbie, knowing that she works like she’s been doing this for years. She may have not grabbed the number one spot, but her experiences and her potential is more than just number one. A big congratulatory hugs to you and your fellow FOP delegates.

Bless the models!

Ben.

THE (RUMORED) PINAY BEAUTIES ON ASIA’S NEXT TOP MODEL CYCLE 4 – POSSIBLE SPOILER

A facebook spoiler post that was shared by a friend of mine made my eyes popped like crazy. The post contains the beauty shots of the possible contenders on the 4th cycle of Asia’s Next Top Model. I immediately opened the unofficial  fan page that posted the spoiler teaser. One of their previous post shows the three girls representing the Philippines. They have already made a name in The local pageant scene and have dipped their stilettos on some modelling gigs. Please take note that the Asia’s Next Top Model has not yet released the official models for this cycle.

By analyzing their background, If they are indeed the official rep from the Philippines, I am crossing my fingers that their pageant background will not hinder their chances on being edgy and editorial. Hopefully, they can shed their pageant skin and reveal a true model self behind all the glitz that they’ve been known for.

Official premiere date of the 4th cycle on Star World Asia on March 9, 2015.

Update: The three Filipina beauties are the official representative of the Philippines Asia’s Next Top Model Cycle 4.

GANI IS ASIA’S NEXT TOP MODEL

Representatives from 8 countries from the biggest continent in the planet battled it out for 13 weeks to take home the prizes and the title of Asia’s Next Top Model. Gani from Indonesia wowed the judges with her presence on the finale runway, and a stunning photo lensed by John Baptiste Fort. Standing at 173 cm, she didn’t let her height ruin her chances of chasing her dreams. She compensated this shortcoming with her amazing bone structure, piercing eyes and the fact that her look (similar to Chiharu Okunugi and Gwen Lu) is one of those desired by high fashion for Asian faces.

Aside form their potential, the judges may have considered on who among the 3 finalist can be marketable for the London / European market. Gani’s editorial appeal may help her work at high fashion, though we may expect her to get limited runway work . But who knows if the Kate Moss luck will be by this beautiful Indonesian when she lands to London? On the other hand, there’s no doubt that Monika and Aimee loves the camera and are runway ready. We can predict to see them become working models in Asian countries soon, with Monika walking Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2015 just recently.

After this evening’s finale, Gani walked away with brand new Subaru XV STI, the opportunity of being the new face of TRESemmé for one of their 2015 campaigns,  a spread and  cover of Harper’s Bazaar Singapore, and a modeling contract with Storm Model Management in London. Congratulations to the top 3 girls. Win or lose, your homeland is proud of you.

Bless the models!

SARAH MEIER-ALBANO AS EDITOR-IN-CHIEF OF METRO MAGAZINE

Photographed by Mark Nicdao Image Source: Rogue (Feb 2013) via Fashion Media PH

The sunniest disposition for this month comes with the April 2015 issue of Metro Magazine. This is the very first issue of the newly appointed editrix Sarah Meier-Albano. Before, she sits in the make-up chair; front row of shows; and MTV set. But now, she combines her high heels and expertise in communication to the world of publication. The cancellation of her hosting stint for Top Model Philippines did not hinder the green-eyed model on expanding her career outside the Model-VJ label. As she spearheads one of the top fashion glossies in the Philippines, the magazine will be able to have a flow of fashion continuity that has morphed from the different editors that handled the position.

The career evolution of the Fil-Swiss beauty will make us utter “That’s a whole lot in her plate”. Instead of looking at it as a life associated with beauty, let us realize that it is the fruit of her labor. Now that  the long legged, sexy version of Miranda Presley (minus the scare and white hair) is in the office, we can now welcome her as a visionary who will tweak the local fashion and entertainment circus. Bless the models! Ben.
