There is no doubt that a butterfly projects elegance and grace on its own way, thus making it as one of the most beautiful creature in the class insecta of the animal kingdom. Its delicate and colorful wings may project threat to other creatures, but this may also be a visual reference for an artistically-playful imagination.
This insect has been used by designers on the runway and ads as part of clothing and styling element. One of those designers who have utilized this creature is the late Alexander Mcqueen on his S/S 2008 collection “La Dame Bleue”. The avant-garde designer collaborated with Philip Treacy in creating ambitious head pieces including the swarm of butterflies as worn by model Alana Zimmer. The hat was paired over a stiff gray dress-suit with pointed hips that emphasizes a tiny waist. Indeed, the whole look is breathtaking.
I am having a “butterflies on my head” sickness lately and planning to search more fashion images with this creature. Maybe I’ll do an illustration version of the Madly Kenzo ad or Siri Tollerod’s editorial for Vogue. We’ll see the following weeks. =)
Bless the models!!!
