The industry fell in love with a girl from Chicago, Illinois who has brought a different take on modeling that plastered her status as a modern day supermodel. Lara Bonomo, the Bookings Director of Teen Vogue Magazine recalled her first meeting with Karlie on her interview with The Teen Vogue Handbook: An Insider’s Guide to Careers in Fashion, “Karlie has such charm and elegance. The moment she left our office, I was on the phone with her agent trying to book her for a shoot”. This was only the beginning of the attention that she’ll have that will put her as a trademark on the modeling world. She eventually switched from Elite NY to rival agency NEXT which has caused a law suit and major stir, but this move brought more opportunities to her. She opened and walked numerous high-profile shows and appeared on the covers of magazines, thus making her a prominent designer’s muse and darling of the magazine editors and stylists.
With her trademark stone-to-death stare and swaying arms in the runway, we never expected a high fashion face like her would book a Victoria’s Secret show. We can say that it’s her American girl-next-door charisma that made the whole thing possible. On the drawing above, I have tried to draw her with her new bob (left) for one of the April 2013 covers of ID Magazine and the one in right is for the September 2012 issue of Birtish Vogue. Personally, I am in favor of her shattered bob since it gives her an edgy update and hopefully Victoria’s Secret team will throw the extensions and let her strut with this new-do similar to Trish Goff on their year 2000 runway show.
Just this year, she left NEXT Worldwide for IMG Worldwide, joining the board of supers and top working girls. We are expecting that this move will establish her as a household name and brand her through endorsements beyond fashion. With all her achievements, we can see that Karlie Kloss is going nowhere but up.
Bless the models!!!
